Welcome to Preschool!
Our Pre-Kindergarten is composed of students age 15 months -5 years old. Students in the Pre-K learn entirely in Mandarin Chinese or Spanish through immersion instruction. During children's early childhood, their brains are uniquely able to acquire a second language, building a strong foundation for academic learning in two languages.
Young children learn by doing. They are full of curiosity, creativity, and they learn to explore the world through ideas, thoughts and observations. Children develop literacy and gain an understanding of basic concepts in math and science; they learn to express themselves through language, art, music and movement.
In our preschool program, we engage students through a variety of multi-sensory experiences and differentiated learning activities, using open-ended materials that ignite children's imaginations. We encourage children to learn how to explore new ideas, take risks, use context clues, work independently, cooperate with classmates, follow instructions, and maintain self-control.
We facilitate the social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of students while promoting a strong sense of community. The structure and routine of the program make children feel safe and secure as they learn to anticipate the sequence of the day and understand the expectation of school.
Core Curriculum
A major focus of the preschool program is on the development of social skills. Hands-on and experiential skill development is individualized, as well as in small groups. Children develop independence and work on problem solving. Children learn how to interact with others and how to learn in groups. The curriculum thus includes:
Development of both fine and gross motor skills through movement and hands-on activities
Individualized focus on language, literacy and writing skills
Estimation and early math readiness and problem solving
On a daily basis, students are provided with opportunities for creative work through various artistic and musical activities
Teachers provide our students with an early understanding of different cultures and ways of thinking supported by cultural activities and events, including the annual Chinese New Year Celebration/Winter Sing.
