Ms. Haiying Wang
Haiying Wang has been teaching Chinese language and cultural classes to heritage and non-heritage students on the part-time basis at day schools and weekend Chinese schools since 2012. She's been teaching Shuangshuang Chinese since 2018, a textbook designed by California Chinese teachers to combine language and cultural learning together. Ms. Wang fills her class with fun slides, pictures and videos, and various class activities from singing and drawing to games and short plays to enhance students’ interest. Students not only learn to read, speak and write Chinese, but also understand Chinese culture in comparison with European and American cultures. Ms. Wang also communicates with parents closely with detailed class summary and assignments, so parents are fully aware of their children's level and progress. Her classes are well received in the community, and have attracted remote-learning students nationwide. Many students have attended international reading and writing competitions and won awards.
Ms. Wang received her PhD in Comparative Literature and Cross-cultural Studies from City University of Hong Kong. She graduated from Fudan University (Shanghai, China) with a B.A. in English Language and Literature and an M.A. in Western Literature and Criticism.

My name is Yu Hangxin. I am teaching Chinese at a public junior high school in the northern suburbs of Chicago. I graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana. I have been teaching Chinese for seven years. I have always had a great passion for teaching Chinese. I am a father of a two-year-old myself, so I hope that my children can still learn the culture and language of their home country in a foreign country. We will have different activities in the classroom such as crafts, games, recitations, etc. I aim to achieve the goal of teaching through interaction with the students. We hope that the students will become learners and transmitters of Chinese culture, and after learning, they will practice and spread the Chinese language and culture to other community members.
